The Armed Forces is once again having their Aboriginal Program. This is a 7 week course that is in July and August. There is a deadline for applications for the Youth that are interested. These Aboriginal Programs are right across Canada. Bold Eagle is Armed Forces which has two bases. One is by Dundurn, Sask., and the other by Wainwright Ab.. Black Bear is Air Forces and that one is in Ontario. Raven is Navy and its located in balmy, Victoria British Colombia.
This is a highly competitive program as it is open to Aboriginal Youth right across Canada. We were very fortunate to have had 3 of our Muskeg Lake Youth that made it through the Basic Military Training last summer. Allysa Arcand and Jennifer McGillivary joined the Raven program in Victoria British Colombia while Ryan Ahenakew went to Black Bear in Ontario. All three have experienced a very challenging and rewarding experience. They have taken a sense of self worth, confidence and leadership home with them. The program is designed to contribute to the development of the Aboriginal Youth by fostering self-confidence, self-discipline, physical fitness, and teamwork.
